The PFA Player of the Year award for the 2024/25 season was given as expected to Mo Salah, who also won the Golden Boot, the Premier League and a massive new contract.

This season it might go to Erling Haaland for scoring all of the goals, or an Arsenal player for the first time since Robin van Persie.

9=) A whole heap of players

These are the current 50/1 shots: Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), William Saliba, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino (Arsenal).

8) Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

Began the season as poorly as his club but has since made himself central to this remarkable season for Aston Villa, scoring five goals and claiming three assists.

7) Eberechi Eze (Arsenal)

His odds shorted on the back of that match-winning performance against Tottenham. But then it turned out that, well, lads it’s Tottenham.

6) Jeremy Doku (Manchester City)

A phenomenal performance against Liverpool was enough to shorten the odds of the Belgian winger to win the PFA award while Manchester City’s chances of winning the Premier League title were massively boosted. But let’s face it, if it’s a City player, it won’t be Doku or…

4=) Phil Foden (Manchester City)

A former winner, he has returned to the kind of form that made him one of the best players in the Premier League just two seasons ago. He is in our Premier League team of the season so far, having fought off Eberechi Eze among others.

4=) Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

Still Arsenal’s most reliable source of creativity, though he has actually only claimed four Premier League goals and one assist this season. It seems unlikely that he will be the key to Arsenal finally winning the Premier League, though his popularity might earn him a few votes.

3) Gabriel (Arsenal)

If Arsenal do win the Premier League, it is likely to be on the foundations of their defence. And Gabriel is key to that defence. Jamie Carragher calls him ‘the most influential player in the Premier League’.

2) Declan Rice (Arsenal)

If Arsenal do win the Premier League, it is likely to be on the foundations of their set-pieces. And Declan Rice is key to those set-pieces. He might also be the best midfielder in Europe bar none on current form.

1) Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

The runaway favourite to win the Golden Boot is a former winner; will his goals be enough to put the Premier League trophy back into Manchester City’s sticky mitts again?
